The main causes for gum disease (gum & bone) are:
- Dentobacterial plaque.
- Load forces over roots.
The germs which caused plaque can be removed with
a correct brushing technique and floss. However the
load forces charged over support structures (bone &
teeth roots) can be well or inadequately absorb by
bone, to depend of root tilt, therefore vertical
forces are transmitted directly to maxilla and this
kind of force stimulate bone grown,-vertical forces
are good- in the other hand, horizontal load forces
charged over lateral bone around roots and this is a
cause for bone loss –horizontal forces are bad.
An Orthodontic basic goal is to place teeth in the
right position to charge chew forces vertical, not
horizontal way.
